Overcoming the Impossible

by John Toomey

As a child, I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder known as Cerebral Paley. The doctors told my parents that I would never drive a car or ride a bike. They told my parents that they should just give me a Nintendo and let me play video games. Guess what? That is exactly what my parents did. I would sit in front of the TV for hours each day in my own little world. I remember my favorite type of video game was what is known as an RPG (Role Playing Game). It would keep track of my time spent playing and by the time that I finally beat the game it would total between 80 to 90 hours or even more. Without realizing it, they did me a favor. I gained my fine motor skill control and hand eye coordination from all those countless hours playing video games.

Today as an adult, I am a Class B CDL driver. I drive a 33,000 (GVW) 24 foot box truck for a living. God can turn any situation around. God can turn any person around. What feels like it’s impossible in your life today? What feels like it will never change in your life today? What feels like it will take an act of God to get better today?

When doctors counted me out, God did not.

When people gave up on me, God did not.

When people said it was impossible, God said it was possible.

“O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” – Psalms 139:1-6

I submit to you today that whatever you are facing, God has allowed it for a reason. Often the reason is beyond our current level of understanding, but that does not mean that there is no reason. God is a chess player, but we are checker players. We can only see what our next move or two is while God is thinking 10 or more moves down the road. God knows exactly where you are and He has not forgotten you. God wants you exactly where you are for ONE REASON. TO BRING GLORY TO HIM.

What will you do today? Will you give full control of your situation over to God or will you say to God “I don’t need your help”. The choose is yours. God loves an underdog.
