Of all the years that I have observed how passionate people have been for politics, this year has been the most intense. We are coming off of 8 years of failed policies, leadership, and everyone is fed up.
Christians have taken sides on who their candidate is and why they are the fittest for the job. Churches are “splitting” up internally over who to vote for and everyone is taking a side they deem to be the right one.
Now I agree that this country needs to be turned around, but at what cost? We can’t start saying we need to be unified while turning on each other at the same time because our candidate didn’t get picked. Christians are taking staunch stands for who they think is qualified and are not backing down, and you shouldn’t back down and compromise if you believe in something with that much passion.
Unfortunately, the person you’re spending all your passion on is not what’s going to turn this country around.
I’m sorry to say, but whoever you are wanting to vote for is just a politician. They can say they are looking out for your interest but, when it comes down to it, they are still looking out for their political career. They still have people that pull some of their strings. Don’t sit here and tell me your candidate is the exception. No one is perfect, so why are we putting our man on a pedestal like they’ve never done wrong and the only thing they are capable of is being a “voice” for the people.
Christians are putting all their eggs in a basket that is going to fail them. Your candidate will fail you. They will fail this country. They are human and just as capable of dropping the ball as we are and that is where we are getting this wrong. They aren’t going to save America.
Washington isn’t going to save America.
Ted Cruz isn’t going to save America.
Donald Trump isn’t going to “Make America Great Again.”
Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders are going to send America further down the drain.
So if they aren’t the problem, then what is?
The solution is Christians putting as much zeal and passion, as they put into pushing their candidate, into telling others about Christ and getting back to discipleship.
America’s problem is not a “Washington” problem. Yes, they have caused us to go further down the road, but they are a by-product of the real problem.
We as a nation have a SIN problem.
Take a look at this verse from Timothy 2 and see how closely this matches what we are living in today.
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. – 2 Timothy 3:1-5
This is everything we’ve become as a nation, yet we believe that putting the right man in the White House is going to fix all of that? Since when did a politician become the person that can change hearts and lives like Christ does? They can’t and won’t. We are wasting time trying to push carnal men into office thinking they are going to perform a spiritual work.
So How Do We Fix This?
1. Start Telling Others About Christ
The biggest thing you can do to help change this country is getting involved in telling others about Christ and getting them to the church so they can grow spiritually. Christ will save them if they are willing. Get passionate about seeing other saved and on the way to having a new life through Christ.
2. Start Ministering To Christians Who Have Fallen Away
There are many who aren’t saved that need the Gospel, but we can’t forget about the Christians that ARE saved but have been beaten down and don’t know what else to do. Start ministering to them and encouraging them in any way you can. It might not seem like much to you, but someone showing them the love of Christ could mean the world to them.
3. Start Getting Them In Church Regularly
You’ve taken the first step to getting passionate and telling others about Jesus, but what are you supposed to do once they’ve accepted Christ? Start discipling them. When Jesus was on this Earth, he didn’t tell his disciples to follow him and then walked away and left them to themselves. He took the time to teach and mentor them.
Don’t just leave the new Christian you just led to the Lord to figure out what they are supposed to do next. If they didn’t know how they were supposed to get to Heaven, what makes you think they know how to live the “Victorious Christian Life” when you walk away? Follow up and get involved in their Christian growth.
4. Start Praying For Them
They are new to the faith and are still stuck in their old ways (like many “seasoned” Christians are). They are going to fall. They are going to make mistakes.
Pray for protection.
Pray for wisdom.
Pray for understanding.
Pray for guidance & direction.
Pray for them.
But this sounds like too much work?
All this does sound like a lot to do, but how committed are you to saving our country? You were pretty passionate when you thought your politician was the way to “save” America, so why can’t you be that passionate in ACTUALLY trying to save America one soul at a time?
The great thing is that you don’t have to do this all by yourself!
What if every Christian won 1 person to the Lord? And then every Christian took the time to mentor and disciple that 1 person. Soon that person would be ready to win 1 person to the Lord. Then they mentor and disciple that person. Then that person is ready to win 1 person to the Lord. Then they mentor and disciple that person………. do you see where this is going?
The cycle repeats itself over and over and over again and what happens? America starts to turn around. More and more Christians are actually living the victorious Christian life and not living in the mess that we are living in right now. They are trusting more in Christ each day to overcome sin
And it all happened because Christians decided to take back their country.
Not through Washington.
Not through their candidate.
Not through anything else but by reaching 1 soul at a time.
Should you vote? Yes. Should you be involved in the state of affairs of the country we live in? Yes. But we shouldn’t be putting all of our HOPE & PASSION in that. We should be putting our passion into reaching the lost and reclaiming those who have fallen away.
One person at a time.

Yes!!! Thank you for this!!! My thoughts exactly! I can’t believe all the Christians fighting over Trump or Cruz. I say, neither is going to change our country- only Christ working through Christians can!
Make America Great Again! Donald Trump for President.
