In the aftermath of any volatile election season, many may find themselves anxious, dispirited, or even disillusioned. Social media buzzes with reactions ranging from celebration to concern to despair. Mainstream media has a spin on every single fact to the point where we are not sure what is true, what is false, or what would fall somewhere in the middle. In recent years, we have had to wait days and weeks to get clear election results. Yet, amidst political uncertainty, there are profound spiritual truths that stand firm, unaltered by any election outcome. Let’s explore four unshakeable realities that no election can ever change for a child of God.
1. God Is Sovereign and All Knowing.
The power and sovereignty of God are beyond the reach of human decisions. While the outcome of an election may delight, surprise, or even distress voters, it is never a surprise to God. His omnipotence and governance over all things, including the rise and fall of leaders, is clearly affirmed in Scripture:
- Daniel 2:21: “And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.”
- Psalms 75:7: “But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”
- Romans 13:1: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”
These verses echo a truth believers can rest in—God is the supreme ruler over all authorities and events. The election may change the face of leadership, but it cannot diminish God’s absolute authority. His nature, attributes, and providence remain steadfast, and His power transcends any political landscape.
2. The History God Has Allowed Is Unaltered.
From the dawn of time, God set the course of history, creating the world and orchestrating the progression of events. Empires have risen and fallen, yet His sovereign plan marches forward. Regardless of the outcome of any election, the divine timeline moves unimpeded toward its destined conclusion.
One day, the Lord Jesus Christ will return, the dead will rise, and the saints will be gathered to Him. The vision given to John the Beloved in Revelation serves as a powerful reminder that we are on the winning side:
- Revelation 7:9: “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.”
Believers can take comfort in the knowledge that the overarching narrative of human history is unchanged by any political outcome. The world’s shifting tides do not thwart the certainty of Christ’s return and ultimate victory. Political power may sway back and forth, but the triumph promised to God’s people remains secure.
3. The Bible Is Forever True.
In times of uncertainty, it is tempting to look for something dependable. While political leaders often make pledges that may or may not materialize, Scripture stands as the unwavering truth that never fails. The Word of God is as reliable today as it has ever been, regardless of any political developments:
- Matthew 24:35: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Not one promise in Scripture fades or falters. God’s declarations are as relevant and powerful as they were centuries ago. Where human assurances fall short, God’s Word provides a fortress of faith. His faithfulness is not subject to human influence, and His promises endure beyond the lifespan of political platforms.
Throughout history, God’s people have faced times of political turmoil and persecution. Yet in every age, the Bible has been a source of hope, a reminder that God’s truth outlasts kings, governments, and shifting ideologies. Believers today are called to anchor themselves in these timeless promises, drawing courage from their divine certainty.
4. Our God-given Mandate as Christians Remains the Same.
No matter the political climate, the mission of the Christian does not waver. In fact, challenging times often serve as a call to deepen one’s commitment to faith. The early church thrived in conditions far more dire than modern political disappointments, enduring persecution while spreading the message of Christ with relentless fervor.
- 2 Timothy 4:2: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Pray without ceasing.”
This biblical charge to believers is timeless. The mandate to worship, pray, witness, and give remains our duty, irrespective of who holds political office. Christians are not called to retreat in defeat but to “occupy till He comes” (Luke 19:13). Our task is to stand as beacons of hope and instruments of God’s work on earth.
The Apostle Paul, despite facing chains and imprisonment, encouraged the church to remain steadfast. He demonstrated that external circumstances could not dampen the zeal of a true follower of Christ. Today, believers are reminded that their service to God should be unwavering, whether times seem favorable or not.
Don’t forget: the obligation to pray for those in authority is not optional but a directive:
- 1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
Believers are called to intercede for their leaders, regardless of personal opinions or political leanings. By doing so, they invite God’s influence into the corridors of power and fulfill their role as spiritual warriors in the kingdom of God.
5. We Can Find Strength to Continue Serving.
In a world where change is inevitable, the Christian’s comfort lies in what does not change. The omnipotence of God, the predetermined outcome of history, the unwavering truth of Scripture, and the ongoing mission of the church are anchors for the soul.
Rather than succumbing to despondency over political outcomes, Christians are encouraged to lift their eyes above earthly matters and place their trust in what is eternal. While elections may affect the here and now, they cannot touch the divine certainties that define the faith. God’s plans will unfold as promised in His Word, and His people are called to stand firm, with unwavering hope, until He comes again.
